Your primary purpose will
be to serve in a capacity as a member of! the nursing team, performing a
variety of nursing assignm! ents of general nature; administering care to
patients and support to providers and nurses in the performance of
personal care; assisting with diagnostic examinations; and treating the
patient, family/significant other, co-workers and peers with respect and
courtesy at all times. You will assist doctors and nurses in the
performance of diagnostic examinations by performing duties such as
monitoring vital signs, preparing and positioning the patient, or by
performing a variety of routine diagnostic tests. You will be required
to enter specific information into the patients' electronic records or
charts using standard medical terminology for the human body, physical
and emotional reactions, nursing care, and contraindications to
medications, etc. You will be responsible for teaching patients and
family members the necessity to continue the procedures for proper
health care, and encouraging patients in self-care activities wi! thin
their individual capacities as outlined on their care plan. Some basic
computer skills will be essential to performing your duties as a Nursing
Assistant. You will be required to perform other related duties as
assigned.
Certification as a Nursing Assistant is preferred.
Hours of work will be rotating shifts based on the needs of the unit.
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
You must meet one of the qualifications below in order to qualify for this position:
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT AT THE GS-4 LEVEL : At least 6 months of general experience AND 6 months of specialized experience is required for this position. General experience is defined as any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad area of ! the occupation. Specialized experience is defined as nonprofessional nu! rsing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as:
Providing personal nursing care such as providing pre- and post-operative care.
Support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus.
Caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement.
Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients.
Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated above, are not required to have general experience or any additional specialized experience to meet the qualification requirements.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of a 2-year degree program in an accredited community college, junior college, or college or university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as education in a program for a psychology, psychiatric, or operating room technician. (You must submit transcripts if qualifying based on education).
OR
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are also qualifying. If education is used to meet specialized experience requirements, then such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position. (You must submit transcripts if qualifying based on a combination of education and experience).

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over), pushing 2 hours, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers and both hands, walking 4 hours, kneeling 1 hour, repeated bending 1 hour, both legs required, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid permitted), mental and emotional stability.
