Job Summary:
Under the supervision and direction of the operating surgeon, upon request, suppor! ts the care and treatment of patients in the intraoperative phase of the perioperative experience. Position is executed in addition to current responsibilities of a surgical technologist. As a member of the surgical team, under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse Circulator, maintains the operating room sterile field: passes instruments, sutures, and sponges during surgery. Insures that proper aseptic technique is utilized to prevent contamination and infection. Performs in the roles of first or second scrub as needed. Assists the registered nurse with circulating duties. First Assistants must be expert in their primary and secondary specialties; and are expected to be able to perform proficiently in at least two or more other specialties.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Completion of approved First Assistant training program and/or occupational specific training required to perform j! ob.
Experience:
Minimum of one (1) year ex! perience in acute care OR setting required.
Training:
Current in CPR or ACLS certification.
License/Certification:
Current national certification as a first assistant through one of the following accrediting bodies: Liaison Council on Certification of the Surgical Technologist (LCC-ST), National Surgical Assistants Association (NSAA), or The American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA).
