The El Paso VA Health Care System in El Paso, Texas is recruiting for a full-time Supervising Physican, Psychiatrist. The El Paso VAHCS is part of VISN 18 Network, and is a standalone ambulatory care facility with over 600 employees and growing. We are an out-patient clinic with working hours from 8:00 am to 4:45 pm, Mondays through Fridays.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.

DUTIES:
Duties include psychiatric evaluation, psychiatric medication management, and coordination of the veteran's overall mental health care (including referrals for psychotherapy and monitoring therapy progress). Psychiatrist work closely with colleagues to provide comprehensive, state-of-art outpatient mental health care and the implementation of principles of Advance Clinic Access in mental health. Documents clinical activity in the patientsÂ' medical records.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
a. Citizenship. Citizen of the United States . (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.)
b. Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
c. Licensure
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States , or in the District of Columbia . The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.
Physical Standards: See VA Handbook 5005, Part III, Chapter 2, paragraph 7, and VA Handbook 5019, Occupational Health Services. All applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.

English Language Proficiency: Appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). [No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. Chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity who is not proficient in written and spoken English].
Drug Testing Designated Positions: In accordance with Executive Order 12564, Federal employees hired in a drug testing designated position will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use during employment.
Background Investigation: New Appointees will be subject to a background investigation to determine suitability.
VetPro: Individuals selected for positions that have patient care responsibilities are subject to undergoing an electronic credentialing process called VetPro. As part of this process, it will be necessary for you to submit complete information concerning your professional education, training, experience, licensure and certifications using VetPro. Selective Service Registration: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must certify at the time of appointment that they have registered with the Selective Service system or are exempt for having to do so under Selective Service law.
