Assist with the delivery of patient care for University Health Services, primarily assigned to General Medicine clinic.
Essential Functions
Assists with the evaluation and care of patients to be seen by UHS providers. Performs department specific procedures and treatments such as intake assessments, EKGs, peak flows, vision testing, nebulizer therapy, ear irrigation, wound care, application of orthopedic devices, crutch teaching, and cleaning/stocking of exam rooms. Assists with minor surgeries, patient health teaching and nursing office functions. Exhibits customer service-oriented behavior and excellent public relations skills. Demonstrates professional and team oriented behavior.
Marginal/Incidental functions
Opportunity to participate in special projects and nursing committees. Other related functions as assigned.
Required qualifications
High school graduation or GED. One year of experience in an ambulatory/primary care clinic. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, certificate of registration as a Medical Assistant, or formal medical services training in the United States Armed Forces. CPR certification within 90 days of hire. Experience with and a moderate comfort level using a personal computer. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with a diverse community and provide services from a non-judgmental perspective.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
More than one year of experience as Medical Assistant. More than one year of experience in an ambulatory, outpatient or urgent care clinic, emergency room, college health or family practice setting. Experience using electronic medical records. Demonstrated good communication skills, interpersonal skills, team-building skills, and professional demeanor.

Usual office and outpatient clinic conditions. Exposure to blood borne pathogens. Exposure to fumes, chemicals, sprays, and commercial items found in standard office conditions, medical clinics, and in repairs and maintenance.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (
TRS
), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
