Physician's Assistant / Instructor (Part Time)

Part Time Physician's Assistant position immediately available in the department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.
Essential Functi! ons and Duties:
- Participate with a member or members or the cardio-thoracic faculty via rounds, outpatient clinic, consultations, operative scheduling and follow-up, including educational activities in cardio-thoracic surgery.
- Participate in pre-operative care and evaluation of thoracic surgical as well as post-operative clinic visits and evaluations.
- Provide case management for outpatients (coordinating referrals, appointments, treatments, etc.).
- Maintain required medical records and write progress notes on patient care, treatments and procedures in electronic health record systems. This includes writing pre-admission testing orders, admission orders, and followup testing as needed.
- Evaluate patients independently and with the supervising physician in the cardio-thoracic clinic setting and assist in determining an initial treatment strategy, planned preoperative screening and workup, with admissions for operation. Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
- Order appropriate perioperative diagnostic exams including x-rays, electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, laboratory tests and other diagnostic procedures when appropriate.
- Notify supervising faculty/resident of abnormalities.
- Perform other job responsibilities as requested by supervising physician.
Required: Bachelor's degree from an approved Physician Assistant program of Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
Minimum Job Experience
None required
Minimum Certification/Licenses/Registration
Required: Certified as a Physician Assistant by the Texas State Board of Examiners and the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
