Coding Inpatient visits including the assignment of ICD-9/CPT-4 codes to generate the appropriate DRG's and APC's of Inpatient's, Day Surgery's and Observation visits with appropriate assignment of ICD-9 codes and CPT-4 codes (to include proper use of modifiers, when needed on Day Surgery's). Review and post physician charges from PSR's. Educates physician staff and other clinical staff on coding issues.
DUTIES
- Assign ICD-9 codes to in! patient records.
- Assign ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes to outp! atient observation records.
- Assign ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes to day surgery records.
- Post physician charges from PSR's.
- Coding of outpatient visits including the ICD-9 codes and the CPT -4 codes. Ensures the use of payable DX for tests and procedures when documentation supports.
- Review chart documentation for accuracy and completeness. Communicates with physician and educates on compliance and coding issues. Works with physician and various departments to ensure adequate documentation is obtained for each service performed.
- Works unbilled report. Routinely compiles and works compiled report for abstracting, ensuring accounts are coded and abstract finalized in a timely manner.
- Stays up to date on coding education by attending webcast and reading articles and journals
High school diploma or G.E.D. Successful completion of college courses in an accredited coding course, preferred. At least th! ree (3) years experience as an inpatient coder. Knowledge and experience in coding policies, procedures and reimbursement methodologies. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point a plus. 3M encoder experience, preferred. One current certification as RHIA, RHIT or CCS. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written are required. *Assign ICD-9 codes to inpatient records.
