POSITION SUMMARY:
Will abstract cancer cases utilizing AJCC Staging, ICD-0 site histology coding, collaborative stage and FORDS standards for the American College of Surgeons ! - Commission on Cancer. Assists with epidemiological, behavioral, or medical research by abstracting data for input into a computer for analysis. Codes all reportable malignant diseases for facilities contracted with by Goldston Cancer Registry utilizing AJCC Cancer Staging Manual, SEER Extent of Disease Manual, Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards, SEER Staging Guide, ICD-0-3 (3rd Edition) Coding Manual and Collaborative Staging Manual and Coding Instructions. Performs case finding utilizing the following resources: Pathology, radiation summary, disease index download, and radiology reports. In coordination with other staff, performs follow-up function to assure registry maintains at a minimum at 90% follow-up rate.
License/ Certifications:
- Associate’s degree or working towards an allied health field degree with coursework in Human Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Science Biology plus Medical Terminology.
- Certified Tumor Registra! r or eligible to write the exam is strongly preferred Qualifications:
- One to two years cancer registry experience preferred with certification
- Must be willing to complete a NCRA Accredited Formal Education Program.
- Cancer Registry Software experience preferred.
- Knowledge of basic computer, telephone, fax, and copy machines required
- Ability to work tactfully and effectively with physicians, public and other hospital employees.
- Extensive knowledge of automated data processing techniques highly desirable.
