DUTIES:
Applications are being accepted for one (1) Nursing Assistant-Monitor Tech position in 7C in Nursing Service. The incumbent must meet the requirements of, and perform the duties of the position. In addition to routine nursing assistant skills candidates must possess telemetry technician skills including performing 12-Lead EKG, phlebotomy, electrocardiograms, oxygen therapy, rhythm interpretation to include: atrial, ventricular, blocks, pacemakers, a working knowledge of the Essentris Monitoring System, incentive spirometry, CPRS, patient safety duties and other duties assigned within individual competencies. Ability to analyze EKG readings in real-time, effectively communicating changes in patient EKG's to an RN or physician and be able to multi-task monitor! ing 30 different patients simultaneously. Identifies and interprets arrhythmias. Uses calibers to measure: PR interval, RR interval, QRS complex and QT interval for loading of sotalol. Must have a working knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of the heart. Utilizes unit resources; MSDS manual, Unit Resource Manual and Medical Center and Nursing Service policies and computer menus. Consistently communicates with customers (e.g. veterans, family members, and the general public) in a courteous, tactful, and helpful manner. Communication, both oral and/or written, is generally provided promptly and is responsive to the customer's needs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Time! -in-grade:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and hav! e held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For the GS-6 level, applicants must have held the GS-5 or higher grade for a year.
The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been in the Federal Service.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
: One year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience includes non professional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as: (1) providing personal nursing care such as providing pre - and post - operative care. (2) Support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment and apparatus. (3) Caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in thei! r behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement. (4) Assisting surgeon and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients.
GS-6: Must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
:
Nursing Assistant-Monitor Tech Functional Requirements: The work is primarily active and requires extensive and prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying of light items, pushing stretcher, wheelchair, mobile equipment or patients.
The work requires above average agility and dexterity.
The work requires heavy lifting of equipment or patients.
