The Nurse Manager will have responsibility for a 16 bed cardiovascular universal bed unit that provides care for patients that vary in acuity. The patient population includes post-operative cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries, post heart catheterization patients, heart failure patients, AMI patients, hypothermia management, and intraaortic balloon pump management to name a few. This department continues to have top decile performance in quality and patient satisfaction and champions open visitation and active involvement of patients and families in the plan of care.

Job Functions

Manages and coordinates the activities of Nursing and Support Staff of assigned units to ensure patient care is provided in accordance with the established Baylor Health Care System (BHCS) standards and legal requirements; Ensures that the continuity of care is maintained during all shifts of the unit; Provides professional Nursing care to patients when necessary due to work load or staffing shortages. Conducts staff meetings to ensure continuity of planning and implementation of effective patient care.

Develops performance plans, identifies performance issues and manages performance and career development; Approves and contributes to in-service education programs for assigned staff; Coordinates the educational activities of staff; communicates new/revised protocols, guidelines, and standards to assigned staff as changes occur.

Coordinates QA/CQI activities for assigned areas; ensures that unit standards and monitoring procedures are consistent with the goals and objectives of BHCS QA/CQI programs and relevant legal requirements.

Performs daily rounding to ensure patient satisfaction criteria are being met and to monitor and evaluate employee performance. Investigates, resolves, and documents the resolution of complaints or incidents concerning patients.

Communicates with various departments to coordinate services, resolve operational issues, and improve quality of patient care; provides input to operational budget development and manages budget for areas of responsibility; continuously reviews processes for operational improvement and efficiencies; Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Education, training, experience:
Requirements:
Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) is required.

Current Texas RN license required.

Multiple years of Leadership experience

ACLS Required
