VA TEXAS VALLEY COASTAL BEND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
The VATVCBHCS is comprised of the Corpus Christi Outpatient Clinic (CCOPC), Corpus Christi Specialty Clinic (CCSC), Harlingen Outpatient Clinic (HOPC), Health Care Center at Harlingen (HCC), Laredo Outpatient Clinic (LOPC), and McAllen Outpatient Clinic (MCOPC). The VATVCBHCS is a virtual health care system providing secondary and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and rehabilitation medicine. The VATVCBHCS also operates a 100-patient Home Based Primary Care program and a 200-patient Care Coordination Home Tele-Health Program. Through the utilization of 2 complex inpatient/emergency department contracts, approximately 1600 inpatient admission and 1200 ER visits are managed by VATVCBHCS. Aff! iliated with the University of Texas Regional Academic Health ! Campus, the system has an active ambulatory care program and serves as a teaching and training site for medical residents. The VATVCBHCS is responsible for an enrollee population of over 30,000 veterans and 25,000 outpatient visits annually.

VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VATVCBHCS) is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Associate Chief Nursing Service (ACNS) for Surgery and Specialty Care. You will provide program oversight for Nursing Service staff in the Ambulatory Surgery and Specialty Care at the Health Care Center at Harlingen (HCC), Corpus Christi Specialty Clinic (CCSC) and smaller specialty care clinics located within the other outpatient facilities and assist with reusable medical equipment program at those sites. As the ACNS for Surgery and Specialty Care, you will function as an administrator, educator, and consultant utilizing management theory in collaboration with Patient Care Service and other services. You must be able to establish and mainta! in effective relationships with all levels of medical center personnel ! and relate effectively with customers, families, and the community as well as program and service leaders at the local and network levels. Your primary responsibilities will be to:
Assist nurse managers and advanced practitioners to carry out the functions and activities expected of them;
Contribute ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of nursing organization-wide;
Provide oversight of Surgical and Specialty Care Programs as they relate to nursing services;
Participate in accreditation, quality improvement and system redesign activities;
Assist in policy-making activities as related to customer service and the overall functioning of administrative and clinical programs, and
Collaborate with other health care staff to establish and maintain programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care.
Work Schedule! : 8:00 - 4:30 p.m.; Alternate schedules may be necessary to meet the needs of the organization.
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
4 - 6 years nurse leadership experience or program management experience
4 - 6 years experience in surgery or related field
4 - 6 years in specialty outpatient clinic experience
Masters degree in Nursing or BSN with Masters degree in related field QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Colleg! iate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools! of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Pr! actice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel.
