About the Position:
This position is located in the Department of Anesthesia & Operative Services, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
The mission and general functions of the Department of Anesthesia & Operative Services, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) are to provide diagnostic service, care and treatment as required to all patients assigned or referred to the department. Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) supports this mission by providing comprehensive nursing care to patients who have undergone anesthesia sedation and surgical procedure. The purpose of this position is to provide support and assistance in preparing, recovering and transporting patients throughout the medical treatment facility.
As a result of sequestration and budget shortfalls, Army is furloughing most of its employees for some amount of t! ime during fiscal year 2013. An employee in this position MAY ! be subject to furlough. If applicable, specific information regarding the administrative furlough will be provided to the individual selected for this position.

As a Nursing Assistant with the Department of Anesthesia & Operative Services, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), you will provide diagnostic serivce care and treatment as required to all patients assigned or referred to the department. You will provide comprehensive care to patients who have undergone anest! hesia sedation and surugical procedures; setting up and/or operat special medical equipment and appratus and tasks associated with admitting, transferring and discharging patients.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Requirements: GS-4 applicants must have six months of general work experience and six months of specialized experience directly related to this occupation.
General Experience: (1) Work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processed of the broad subject are of the occupation.
Specialized Experience: 6 months of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower level (GS-03) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience which ! involves providing personal nursing care such as providing pre- and pos! t-operative care; and/or setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus; and/or caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior; and/or assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients.

Education Substitution: Successful completion of a two year degree in Nursing.
OR
Combination of Experience and Education: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education in excess of 60 hours (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at le! ast 100% to qualify. (Note: You must include a copy of your transcripts with your application.)

Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 (Condition of employment for certain Civilian positions identified as Critical under the Depar! tment of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program) requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
Successful completion of a pre-placement physical examination is required.
Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification Current Advanced Life Support of other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
May include shift work or rotating shifts (rotating on all shifts, weekends or may be assigned to one shift depending on needs of the department).
