The Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vas! cular Center Chief of the Heart Failure Division in the Department of Cardiology at The Methodist Hospital provides leadership to one of the most innovative and busy heart failure programs in the country. The faculty in the heart failure division is responsible for the management of patients with advanced heart failure including the use of innovative new medical therapies as well as LVADs and cardiac transplantation in close collaboration with the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery. They also provide oversight to the management of heart failure within the institution, and the implementation of programs to reduce mortality, length of stay and re-admission rates for patients hospitalized with heart failure. The Heart Failure Division Chief is responsible for ensuring superior quality of patient care services, furthering clinical excellence, promoting clinical and basic research, fostering the academic and professional growth of faculty, developing the physicians of the futu! re through resident and fellowship training, and continuing ed! ucation programs in heart failure. This individual is required to have an understanding of quality program management, strategic planning, operational improvement, financial management and fund development, as well as physician practice and health system administration, while demonstrating the highest level of ethical conduct. The Division Chief promotes communication and collaboration within the cardiology department, across departments such as CV Surgery, Medicine and Surgery, and across centers of excellence such as the Multi-organ Transplant Center and Research Institute. He/she works in partnership with hospital administration to advance the Methodist's values of teaching excellence, research innovation, and compassionate patient care. The position requires an MD degree and active board certification in Cardiology and Heart Failure with a demonstrated history of accomplishments that qualify the individual at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the Weill Cor! nell Medical College.
