The Sr Staff Software Engineer (Electronics) will:
Provide technical leadership and guidance for the design and development of the system software used in electronic instruments related to ArthroCareâs product lines and products for OEM customers.
Design and develop prototype systems to eva! luate the feasibility of advanced concepts related to companyâ! s core business.
Assist manufacturing group with the design and evaluation of manufacturing and test fixtures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: (Other duties may be assigned)
Function as the lead technical resource for software used in ArthroCare and OEM electronic instrument products.
Design, prototype and develop control software, algorithms and user interfaces used within instrument products and manufacturing fixtures.
Investigate new techniques and technologies that could be used in future ArthroCare products.
Design and develop software and logic for PLD, FPGA and embedded processor based control systems.
Investigate instrument failures from field returns in order to understand failure mechanism and institute design changes to improve product reliability.
Provide technical support to customer service, marketing and other departments for instrument or system pe! rformance problems in the field.
Provide continuous engineering support on assigned products to maintain and improve margin, performance and quality.
Work with project teams to deliver acceptable documentation on new software controlled products (including but not limited to: Architecture Design Charts, Software Requirements Specifications, Software Design Specifications, Traceability Matrices, etc.) in a timely manner. Must be familiar with documentation system under ISO 13485 and/or GMP for a medical device company.
Support software verification and validation activities and provide technical data/ report to the development teams.
Support the maintenance of ArthroCare internal procedures to ensure software development practices are compliant with the current FDA and ISO standards.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements l! isted are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability requir! ed.
Education and/or Experience: Essential. B.S. degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, and 12 years of embedded software design experience with at least 4 years in medical devices.
Language Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skills.
Mathematical Skills: Needed for engineering position.
Reasoning Ability: Need to be able to make rapid and sound decisions.
Computer Skills: Good knowledge of MS Office Suite; exceptional embedded software development skills using C/C++ and assembly language. Familiarity with the Atmel AVR microcontroller is preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities: Be able to work with people at all levels of organization. Thorough understanding of FDA and MDD design control requirements for electronic and software controlled devices. Knowledge of IEC 62304; knowledge of IEC/UL 60601-1 and IEC 60601-2-2 preferred.

Other Qualifications: Demonstrated technical and project management ability. Demonstrated experience developing software for embedded systems for medical applications.
