SUMMARY :
Operating Room
Technologists, also called scrubs, surgical, or surgical te! chnicians,
assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons,
registered nurses, or other surgical personnel and are part of the
operating room teams. Before an operation Operating Room
Technologists help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical
instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
They assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as
adjust and check it to ensure it is working properly. Technologists
may also get patients ready for surgery by washing, shaving, and
disinfecting incision sites. They transport patients to the operating
room, help position them on the operating table, and cover them with
sterile surgical “drapes.†Technologists assist the
surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and
gloves .
During surgery,
technologists pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons
and surgeon assistants. They may hold retractors! , cut sutures, and
help count sponges, needles, supplies, ! and instruments. Surgical
technologists help prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens taken
for laboratory analysis and help apply dressings. Some operate
lights, or suction machines, and help operate diagnostic
equipment .
After an operation
or procedure, surgical technologists may help transfer patients to
the recovery room and clean and restock the operating
room.
Routinely works
weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, overtime, and/or on an
on-call/call-back status. This position summary contains the
most relevant duties and responsibilities and does not exclude other
assignments not mentioned .
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS :
1. Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
Certification
2. Must have and maintain BLS
certified
3. Willingness to be cross trained to other
areas
4.
Must
demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Co! mpliance
Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and
procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and
immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance
Officer.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE:
5. Must have a certificate of completion
from a Surgical Technologist program or a military training program
and maintain.
