Through Q1 2009 Tenet Healthcare Corporation h! as ownership interest in or operates twenty-one (21) Ambulatory Surgery Centers located in eleven (11) states. Eleven (11) of the facilities are jointly owned. Net revenues for 2008 were approximately $77 million (with EBITDA around $15 million), and the total number of cases for ASC averages 48,000 annually.

Additionally, Tenet Healthcare Corporation has ownership interest in or operates thirty-six (36) Digital Imaging Centers located in eleven (11) states. Two (2) of the facilities are jointly owned. Net revenues for 2008 were approximately $113 million (with EBITDA around $70 million), and the DICs average approximately 536,000 procedures annually.

The Outpatient role extends far beyond ASCs and DICs. This role would also add leadership and expertise to the management of the $2.8 billion book of overall outpatient activity and work closely with our hospital leaders and Senior Vice Presidents of Operations to optimize Tenet’s O/P posture and competitiv! eness across the footprint. Existing free-standing ASC and DIC! volumes are well over 4.1 million annual outpatient visits in aggregate, with a combined estimated EBITDA of $1 billion.

Reporting Relationships

The Regional Director/Director, ASC Operations will report directly to a Senior Director, ASC Operations who reports to the Vice President, Outpatient and Ambulatory Services of Tenet Healthcare Corporation. The candidate will be responsible for building and managing a group of direct reports, primarily ASC Administrators.

Regional Director/Director Responsibilities

The Regional Director, ASC Operations will be responsible for overseeing and managing multiple outpatient surgery centers, as well as supporting the operational transition of new centers or acquisitions. The Director works with his/her center managers to assure compliance with CMS, state licensure rules, and accreditation standards, improve! operational performance, implement best practices, and increase volume via changes in scheduling, registration, thru-put/patient flow, customer service, physician and referral office relations, and marketing.

The Director also acts as a coach and mentor for the managers and holds them accountable for results. The Director maintains positive relationships with physician partners and Tenet stakeholders.

Other key duties for the Regional Director include the following:

  • Develop best practices, support and management infrastructure.
  • Provide new center start-up and ongoing management support, as well as oversee existing center operations .
  • Educate and present Tenet Healthcare Corporation Center of Excellence model to prospective physician partners.
  • Identify offensive market opportunities, as well as provide marketing and branding support.
  • Develop proprietary product line financial model templates and joint-v! enture process.
  • Partner with Business Development Directors on! all physician presentations/JV negotiations.
  • Facilitate new business development projects as a supporting liaison between the hospitals, physicians, lawyers, and the support team.
  • Consistently achieve earnings targets through focus on ASC partnership, top line growth, and margin improvement.
  • Maintain keen awareness of industry trends and the competition in areas of business process redesign.
  • Support, promote and ensure compliance with the Process Improvement program that is performed by the departments.
  • Ensure that the centers comply with applicable JCAHO, AAAHC, professional and other regulatory standards.
  • Analyze center operations on a continuing basis with recommendation and implementation of improved systems, where appropriate.
  • Assist with preparation of annual budgets for ASCs in coordination with the center administrators, governing boards, and corporate staff members.
  • Perform monthly and quarter! ly reviews of ASC financial and operational performance.
Travel

Moderate to extensive depending upon geography.

Qualifications

:

Education/Certifications

Qualified candidates are required to have an undergraduate degree, with a Master’s degree preferred, preferably in Business or Healthcare Administration, a definite plus.

Required Background Experience:
Minimum of five years of progressive ASC management experience is required with proven experience successfully managing a freestanding facility.

Proven ability developing positive strategic relationships with physicians for the purpose of establishing successful joint ventures.

Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare organizations, as well as standards and laws applicable to managing business development and planning issues. Work collaboratively with the various corporate support departments.

Proven financial management ski! lls, including ongoing profit and loss accountability.

Should ! have a solid understanding of information technology as an enabler of business and hospital process improvement.

Ability to identify appropriate opportunities and successfully initiate plans to accomplish them. Able to successfully get things done through both formal and informal channels.

Self-starter who is able to manage his/her own time and the time of others effectively, thereby maintaining a high level of productivity. Takes initiative and is accountable for results.

Must demonstrate the ability to creatively solve problems independently and in group situations. Participate in strategic problem solving sessions.
