:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Clinical Services the Charge Nurse assumes responsibility for d! irection and coordination of all functions in the department. In collaboration with other members of the management team, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided.
The Charge Nurse:
A. Assumes responsibility for direction and coordination of all functions of the designated department.
B. Functions as a resource person for staff members and assists in necessary education of individual members of the nursing staff.
C. Assumes responsibility for the overall quality of nursing care provided when s/he is on duty.
D. Makes decisions regarding activities within these areas based on Administrative Operational Standards, Nursing Standards, Human Resource Standards, and Standards of Care for the department, in collaboration with other members of the management team.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
:
Education Required: Gra! duate of accredited nursing school
Education Prefe! rred: Completion of or actively pursuing a BSN degree
Experience Required: Minimum of at least two years experience as staff RN
Experience Preferred: Computer skills. Previous charge nurse experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
:
Required: Current Texas RN license; current BCLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
Preferred: ACLS, CNOR, Member of Association of Operating Room Nurse (if applicable)
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
:
Reports to: Manager Nursing/Director of Clinical Services
Positions supervised: Nursing personnel, Surgical Technicians (if applicable) and Ancillary Staff assigned to the department
