Be able to perform all nursing duties according to state nursing protocols as best practice, established by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners for Licensed Vocational Nurses and R! egistered Nurses, including but not limited to transcribing and implementing physician’s orders, developing and maintaining an accurate MARS for each resident, active on going nursing assessments, and carrying out all treatment orders as directed by the physician.

Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with residents and other persons in a position to understand care requirements.

Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to residents and employees.

Assures the quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following nursing division’s philosophies and standards of care set by Texas Boards of Nursing State Nursing Practices Act, Medical Protocols and other governing agency regulations such as DADS, DSHS, DFPS, ORR, etc.

Resolve! patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary tea! m strategies.

Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administrations and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.

Provide required facility documentation and reporting in a timely manner to meet regulatory obligations.

Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventing maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions, calling in for repairs, maintaining equipment inventory, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.

Communicate with pharmacies on ordering prescription medications, check medication deliveries for accuracy and compliance with doctor’s, nurse practitioner’s or physician assistant’s orders.

Maintain nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory levels, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies, usin! g equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.

Transport or arrange for transport of residents to health care appointments including doctor’s visits, dental checkups, therapies, tests, and other procedures.

Maintains professional technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.

Participate in the development of health/medical related Policies and Procedures to a residential center. Participation in day program development and health as it pertains to medication and administration.

Maintain health care records relevant to all medical issues, to include such things as: injuries, surgeries, dental exams, lab results, medical prescriptions, immunizations of residents, and at times, injured employees.

Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to! requests, building rapport, participating in team problem-solving meth! ods.

Maintain confidentiality of health care records and information in keeping with HIPPA requirements and BCFS confidentiality policy and procedures. Ensure that health care information is transmitted and release only as specifically authorized by BCFS policy and HIPPA mandates.

Keeping Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer appraised of any and all major medical concerns or issues at all times.

Measurable Deliverables:
Perform / Fulfill nursing responsibilities in compliance with our regulatory authority (DADS, DSHS, DFPS, ORR, Medical Protocols).

Provide necessary training of BCFS staff and residents on medical issues.

Respond to timely completion of assignments.

Ensures departmental accuracy and timely submittal of all necessary documentation, medical records and statistical reports. Submits such documentation to the Associate Executive Director with designated time lines.

Responsible fo! r providing employee evaluations, corrective action plans on a timely manner.

Other Responsibilities:
Member of IMT. Attends all mandated trainings for IMT and reports for active duty when required.

May be required to assist in transportation of program participants and/or BCFS property.

Arrange proper disposal unused and expired medications.

Keep the Associate Executive Director and Senior Program Director clearly informed of medical issues affecting quality of life on campus.

Advise and consult with the Associate Executive Director on issues of contagious disease control when any resident on campus is ill with a contagious disease.

Interact with the BCFS Medical Director on policy and procedure issues affecting the quality of health care services on campus.

Keep all BCFS staff informed of best practices regarding CPR, First Aid, calling 9-1-1, and controlling contagious disease.

Conduct per! iodic training sessions for all BCFS direct care staff on issues essent! ial to quality health care and emergency response preparedness.

Other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Must possess a State of Texas Registered Nurse License.

Experience: Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a medical clinic or hospital environment. Candidate must also have great organizational and communication skills, knowledge of and some professional experience working with pediatrics. Supervisory experience of medical support staff is highly preferred.

Requirements:
Bilingual in Spanish and English is required.

Ability to read, analyze, interprets medical professional periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write medical reports, medical correspondence, and medical protocols.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrative staff, patients and the general public a! s required.

Knowledge of State Nursing requirements.

Possess excellent interpersonal skills, as well as, organizational and planning skills.

Ability to work effectively without extensive supervision.

Possess a valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Good standing as a Licensed Registered Nurse with the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.

Must pass a criminal background check as a condition of employment and to maintain ongoing employment.

Must satisfy the physical demands described as essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodations, by an employee to successfully perform this job.

The employee is required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop or kneel.

The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. with assistance.

The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
